Importing a Vehicle: We’ll Help You Get Your Alberta Plates

If you’re vehicle comes from outside the province, you must pass an out of province vehicle inspection in order to receive Alberta licence plates. The program promotes motorist safety and prevents the import of stolen automobiles and parts. The province does provide some exceptions for privately owned vehicles coming from British Columbia or Saskatchewan. You can learn more about the provincial exemptions here.

Visit an Alberta registry agent for a proper inspection form and then contact Sun Auto & Repair to complete your out of province inspection.

What is involved in an Alberta Out of Province Inspection?
The inspection usually takes about 2 hours to cover the condition of the following components:

  • Fuel and exhaust systems

  • Engine controls

  • Steering, suspension

  • Braking systems

  • Wiring and lamps

  • Tires

  • Glass

  • Wipers

  • Defrosters

  • Overall body condition

Once approved, you have 14 days to register your vehicle with the province. If the vehicle is not approved upon inspection, you have 30 days to make the stipulated adjustments.

If your vehicle does not pass the inspection, Sun Auto & Repair will waive any additional re-inspection fees.
